Dive Enthusiasts to Make History in Andaman Islands with Underwater Guinness World Record Attempt

Port Blair, October 27, 2024 — A call to all certified scuba divers has been announced, inviting them to participate in a historic underwater event in the stunning Andaman Islands this November. The Andaman & Nicobar Administration is organizing an ambitious attempt to set multiple underwater Guinness World Records at Radha Nagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep, from November 11th to 17th, 2024.

Aiming for Underwater Glory

This unique event will feature attempts to break three underwater records:

  1. Largest Flag Unfurled Underwater
  2. Tallest Human Stack Underwater
  3. Longest Human Chain Underwater

The highlight for recreational and certified divers is the attempt to create the “Longest Human Chain Underwater.” The event is expected to draw diving enthusiasts from across India, eager to contribute to a new page in the record books.

Criteria for Participation

The opportunity is open exclusively to Indian nationals, with a minimum certification of Open Water Diver from any recognized World Recreational Scuba Training Council (WRSTC) Training Agency. Additionally, divers need at least 10 logged dives and must submit a WRSTC Medical Form with a doctor’s approval to confirm fitness for participation. Preference will be given to divers holding higher certifications and those bringing their own diving gear.

A Selective Process

A panel of dive professionals and representatives from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration will oversee the selection process. Participants above 50 years old must also provide a separate Medical Fitness Certificate. Selected divers will be notified by email, with the deadline for registration set for October 30, 2024.

Practical Details and Associated Costs

Although the event is non-commercial, participants must cover travel, accommodation, and related expenses. Registered participation is free, but if the record attempts succeed, those involved can opt to purchase Guinness World Record certificates and medallions at a nominal fee:

  • Participation Certificate: £15
  • Digital Certificate: £3
  • GWR Medallion: £5

The event is expected to draw significant attention, with Radha Nagar Beach, famed for its crystal-clear waters and scenic beauty, providing the perfect backdrop for the record-breaking attempts.

Building Momentum for Marine Tourism

This initiative reflects a broader effort by the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to promote the region’s marine tourism potential. With certified divers gathering from across the country, the event aims to highlight the Andaman Islands as a premier diving destination, showcasing its vibrant underwater ecosystem.

Registration Details

Interested divers can access the registration form and more details on the official website www.andamantourism.gov.in. The completed forms and documents must be emailed to andamantourismscuba@gmail.com by 5:00 PM on October 30, 2024.
