  1. Tabo – The coldest spot in Himachal this season, located in Lahaul and Spiti, recorded temperatures as low as -12.7°C.
  2. Koksar – The new hotspot for snow lovers in Lahaul, Koksar offers skiing, snowboarding, and snow trekking adventures.
  3. Kalpa – Nestled in Kinnaur district, Kalpa is a serene haven for those seeking mesmerizing snow-clad vistas.
  4. Khadrala – A lesser-known gem near Shimla, this area received a fresh coat of snow, perfect for offbeat exploration.
  5. Manali – A favorite winter destination that continues to charm visitors despite delayed snowfall in the region.
  6. Kukumseri – Another frigid locale in Spiti, ideal for experiencing Himachal’s extreme winters.
  7. Sumdo – Located in Spiti Valley, Sumdo is now a snowy escape for thrill-seekers.
  8. Narkanda – Known for its apple orchards and snow sports, this quaint hill station is a must-visit.

  • Atal Tunnel-Leh National Highway 3 – A crucial link for northern travelers.
  • Firozpur-Shipki La National Highway 5 – Connecting remote parts of Himachal, this highway is vital for local and tourist movement.
  • Manali-Leh Highway – The Atal Tunnel’s gateway to Lahaul Valley ensures year-round access despite heavy snow.
  • Tandi-Darcha Road – A lifeline for Darcha residents, the BRO has deployed snow-clearing machines to keep this route operational.
  • Sansari-Killar-Thirot-Tandi Road – This road provides essential connectivity to the remote Pangi region in Chamba.

Tourism Booms Amid Snowfall

With destinations like Koksar, Sissu, and Solang Valley basking in fresh snow, tourists are flocking to Himachal in record numbers. Local businesses, especially in Manali and Lahaul, are experiencing a surge in demand for accommodations. The festive season, coupled with a promising New Year influx, has left hoteliers optimistic.

Gajender Thakur, the Chief Patron of the Manali Hoteliers Association, stated, “Despite delayed snowfall in Kullu-Manali, destinations like Koksar and Sissu have kept the spirit alive. Preparations for Christmas and New Year are in full swing, and we anticipate higher footfall as snowfall increases.”

BRO’s Efforts to Maintain Connectivity

The BRO has deployed 32 snow-clearing machines and over 200 personnel across Lahaul and Spiti, focusing on keeping essential roads open for both locals and tourists. The opening of the Atal Tunnel has been a game-changer, ensuring uninterrupted access to the snowbound Lahaul Valley throughout the winter.

Travel Tips for Snow Lovers

  • Pack heavy woolens and proper snow boots for regions like Tabo and Koksar, where temperatures dip below freezing.
  • Check road conditions before traveling; prioritize routes like the Manali-Leh Highway for a seamless journey.
