AirAsia Announces New Flights to Thailand from India: Hyderabad and Chennai Added to Route Map

Bangkok – Thai AirAsia has announced plans to expand its operations in India by introducing two new routes: Bangkok to Hyderabad and Phuket to Chennai. This expansion strengthens the airline’s presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, as it looks to offer more low-cost options for travelers between Thailand and India.

Here’s a table outlining the details of the new Thai AirAsia flights from India to Thailand:

Route Start Date Frequency Aircraft
Bangkok – Hyderabad October 27, 2024 4 flights per week Airbus A320-200, A320neo
Phuket – Chennai October 30, 2024 3 flights per week Airbus A320-200, A320neo

These new routes will offer Indian travelers direct and affordable connections to Thailand, expanding Thai AirAsia’s network in the region.

The Bangkok-Hyderabad route will begin on October 27, 2024, with four flights per week, while the Phuket-Chennai service will launch on October 30, 2024, operating three times a week. Both routes will be serviced by Thai AirAsia’s Airbus A320-200 and A320neo aircraft, part of its fleet of 59 planes.

Thai AirAsia has not officially announced the exact fares for the new routes. However, as a low-cost carrier, it is expected to offer competitive prices, especially during promotional periods. Based on past trends, fares for similar routes can start as low as ₹5,000–₹8,000 (approx. $60–$100) for a one-way ticket, depending on demand, season, and booking time.

For the latest fare details, it is advisable to check Thai AirAsia’s website or booking platforms closer to the launch dates of the new routes (October 27 and October 30, 2024). Keep an eye out for promotions that could offer even more affordable prices.

This move reflects Thai AirAsia’s commitment to resuming pre-pandemic levels of operation and meeting growing demand in India. The airline already operates flights to 12 destinations in India, including major cities like Kolkata, Bangalore, and Jaipur. With these new routes, it hopes to attract both Indian tourists traveling to Thailand and Thai travelers seeking to explore southern India.

“We have seen an overwhelming response from our Indian guests, looking to explore international destinations as well as visitors from those countries coming to Thailand,” said Tansita Akraritpirom, AAT Head of Commercial. “AirAsia Thailand is reaffirming its commitment in the Indian market with these new routes, which serve key cities in southern India.”

Along with its route expansion, Thai AirAsia has been recognized for its punctuality. In August 2023, the airline was named the most on-time airline in the Asia-Pacific region, with 78.98% of its flights arriving on schedule. To celebrate this achievement, the airline has launched a new national advertising campaign, “Thank You for Being Punctual,” to show appreciation to passengers who contribute to its punctuality success.

As Indian tourism to Thailand continues to rise, these new routes are expected to further boost travel between the two countries, providing more convenient and affordable options for both business and leisure travelers.
