Bangkok, Thailand – In a significant move to boost tourism and strengthen economic ties, Thailand has announced an enhanced visa exemption scheme specifically designed to attract Indian travelers. Effective from 15 July 2024, this new policy allows Indian tourists to enjoy an extended stay in the Land of Smiles.
- Exciting New Benefits for Indian Travelers:
- Extended Stay: Indian tourists can now stay in Thailand visa-free for up to 60 days, with the possibility of extending their stay to 90 days.
- Seamless Travel: This new visa exemption scheme makes travel planning easier and more convenient, encouraging longer vacations and in-depth exploration of Thailand’s rich culture, stunning landscapes, and vibrant cities.
Previous Initiatives and Enhancements:
- November 2023: The initial visa exemption scheme was introduced, allowing 30-day stays, extendable to 60 days. This initiative saw a remarkable increase in the number of Indian tourists.
- May 2024: Thailand extended the scheme to 10th November 2024, maintaining the initial stay duration.
- July 2024: In response to positive feedback and growing demand, Thailand has now extended the visa-free stay to 60 days, further extendable to 90 days.
Attractions Awaiting Indian Tourists:
- Cultural Treasures: Explore the Grand Palace, Wat Arun, and the ancient city of Ayutthaya.
- Natural Wonders: Discover the pristine beaches of Phuket, the lush jungles of Chiang Mai, and the breathtaking islands of Krabi.
- Shopping and Cuisine: Indulge in world-class shopping in Bangkok and savor the delectable flavors of Thai cuisine.
Thailand’s Director of Tourism, Mr. Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, expressed his excitement about the new scheme, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome our friends from India with an extended visa exemption period. This initiative reflects our commitment to enhancing the travel experience and fostering closer ties between our nations. We invite Indian travelers to immerse themselves in the beauty, culture, and hospitality of Thailand.”
For Indian tourists planning to visit Thailand without the current visa exemption scheme, the Visa on Arrival (VOA) option provides a convenient alternative. This allows Indian travelers to enter Thailand for tourism purposes without a pre-applied visa, facilitating stays of up to 15 days. Upon arrival at designated immigration checkpoints, tourists can apply for the VOA by paying a fee of 2,000 Baht (~₹4,700). This streamlined process ensures that Indian visitors can still experience the wonders of Thailand, from its stunning beaches to its rich cultural heritage, even after the visa exemption period ends in November 2024.
