Day 1: Tawang to Mago via Jung, New Maling, and Thingbu
Depart early from Tawang to Mago, a drive that takes approximately 6-7 hours. Stop at Jung for breakfast before continuing your journey through the picturesque route via New Maling and Thingbu.
The drive will take you through narrow gorges of the Mago Chu River, showcasing numerous waterfalls and scenic vistas. Arrive in Mago Village by afternoon, check into a guesthouse or homestay, and spend the evening exploring the village and interacting with locals.
Day 2: Exploring Mago Village and Surroundings
After breakfast, begin your day with a hike to the Mago Chuna Valley, exploring narrow gorges, hidden caves, and rocky cliffs. Visit the Topkey Hot Spring for a rejuvenating dip in its medicinal waters, and enjoy a picnic lunch by the river.
In the afternoon, consider trekking along the trail from Mago to Jethang, tracing the Dungma Chu River. Return to Mago Village in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay (Homestay).
Day 3: Mago to Damteng via Chumi Gyatse Waterfalls
After breakfast, check out from your accommodation and begin the journey to Damteng, which takes around 7-8 hours.
Your journey, will cross several high-altitude passes, including Gongkar La, and passing notable landmarks like Lungla Post, and Chuna Post.
Arrive in Damteng by afternoon, check into your accommodation, and take a break.
After taking rest, drive 8 kilometers to the Chumi Gyatse 108 Waterfalls. This newly opened attraction features a stunning series of waterfalls that are a natural wonder. To reach the waterfalls, you will embark on a 1.5-kilometer trek along the Tsechu River, immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Return Damteng and overnight stay.
Day 4: Damteng to Tawang via High Mountain Passes
Begin your journey from Damteng early in the morning. Your first stop will be at the famous hot springs in Tsechu Village. Enjoy a refreshing and therapeutic experience in these hot springs, which are well-known for their medicinal properties.
After visiting the waterfalls, continue your journey through Tingzi La Pass. This high-altitude pass offers breathtaking views of the Himalayan landscape, including pristine alpine lakes that dot the region. The serene and majestic scenery will leave you mesmerized.
Proceed to Bum La Pass, which stands at an elevation of 4,600 meters. This pass is known for its historical significance and stunning views along the Indo-China border. The rugged terrain and panoramic vistas make it a highlight of the journey.
Travel through Milakatong La Pass, which is situated at an elevation of 3,960 meters. This pass offers majestic landscapes and numerous high-altitude glacier lakes, creating a picturesque route as you make your way towards Tawang.
Arrive in Tawang by the evening. Check into your hotel and enjoy a relaxing night, reflecting on the day's adventures through some of the most scenic and culturally significant points of interest in Arunachal Pradesh.
